Obituary

Katherine Mary Hulst, age 83, of Crookston, Minnesota, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, with her three daughters by her side. She was born on August 17, 1942, to parents Charles and Lorraine (Leguee) Steffen.

Katherine began her education at St. Joseph Academy, then attended the Cathedral School, which she later graduated from. This strong foundation began her lifelong dedication to serving others. Professionally, she worked as a CNA at Saint Francis Hospital, then later she started at Riverview Hospital in housekeeping and ended her career there as a Health Unit Coordinator.

As a member of the Cathedral of The Immaculate Conception and the Cathedral Circle Funeral Guild, Katherine was deeply connected to her faith and community. She cherished her relationships, especially the warm connection with all the gal’s at the Summerfield Apartments!

Family was at the heart of Katherine’s world. After the passing of her beloved husband of 57 years, Bill, she found profound joy in spending precious time with her three daughters. Her role as a grandmother was equally treasured and she loved attending all of her grandchildren’s activities; a constant source of love and support.

Katherine enjoyed watching sports, reading, and music, especially Elvis, and loved spending time with her card group. They went shopping, out to the casinos, and would meet for everyone’s birthdays. She kept a meticulous household, everything was always in its place, even with the changing seasons and her memorable holiday decorating.

Katherine will be dearly missed and remembered fondly by those who had the privilege of knowing her.

She is survived by her daughters, Paula (Chuck) Lariviere of Crookston, MN, Pamela (Dale) Stainbrook of Crookston, MN, Jennifer Thompson of Savage, MN; grandchildren, Lorne Simonson of Grand Forks, ND, Landon Stainbrook of Vail, CO, Ryan (Katie) Lariviere of Crookston, MN, Andrea (Jordan) Brekken of Crookston, MN, Rachel (Jake) Kulwicki of Grafton, ND; great-grandchildren, Destiny (Asher) Daniel of Bagley, MN, Eian Simonson of Fosston, MN, Kora Lariviere of Crookston, MN, Lainey Lariviere of Crookston, MN, Ace Brekken of Crookston, MN; great-grandchild, Rory Daniel of Bagley, MN; siblings, Betty Miller, Michael Steffen, Scharlene Obregon, John (Sharon) Peters, Lisa Nuss, Brian Steffen, Craig (Laurie) Steffen, Meg Levick, Jill (Robert) Baron, Terry Steffen, Sara Steffen; sister-in-law, Sharon (Paul) Krueger; brother-in-law, Henry (Donna) Hulst; and several nieces and nephews.
