Henrietta Gebhardt

Henrietta Elizabeth Gebhardt, 91, of Crookston, MN, passed away December 28, 2011 after a courageous battle against cancer. Her family was near her side. Henrietta was born in Whitman, ND on May 1, 1920, the daughter of Frank and Barbara (Vakoch) Horejsi. She attended school and graduated from Whitman High School. Henrietta met the love of her life, Freddie George Gebhardt, and the two were joined in marriage March 19, 1940. Once married, they moved to East Grand Forks and later to Euclid, MN where they had a farm together. Aside from farming, Henrietta also worked for Arctic Cat working on snowmobiles until the plant closed. In 2004, she and Freddie moved to Crookston, MN where they lived until her passing.

Henrietta belonged to St. Paul's Church in Euclid, MN where she was confirmed and served on the Ladies Aid board. She was also well-known for her sewing and gardening skills, and ability to can just about anything. Henrietta is remembered as being loving, hardworking, and passionate about her family and life.

Henrietta is survived by her loving husband of seventy-one years, Freddie Gebhardt; two children, Kenny Gebhardt and Barbara McWaters, both of Crookston, MN. She was a loving grandmother to Brian (Kelly) McWaters and Tom McWaters, and had one great-grandson, Ian McWaters. Henrietta leaves behind one sister, Rose Marie Hamann of Langdon, ND and nieces and nephews: Mary O'Clair, Bonnie Smith, Janet Elsbernd, Sherry Mundy, Loraine Rowley, Wally Horejsi, Richard Novak, Darlene Fine, Marcus Hamann, Clayton Hamann, Ardis Gebhardt, and many grand and great-grand nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Barbara Horejsi; one brother, Wesley Horejsi; one sister, Millie Novak; and two nephews, Lawrence Hamann and Ambrose Novak. A prayer service for Henrietta Elizabeth Gebhardt will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, January 6, 2012, at Stenshoel-Houske Funeral Home in Crookston, MN.
