Della Montreuil

November 2, 1947 — September 17, 2014

Della Evon Montreuil, of Euclid, Minnesota, passed away unexpectedly in her home on September 17, 2014. Della was born in Warren, Minnesota, on November 2nd, 1947 to Lauverne and Lillian Cormican. As Della was raised in Euclid, she attended Euclid Elementary School. From there, she went to Crookston for middle school, as well as high school. Sadly, when Della was 16, her mother Lillian passed away. It was at this time that Della became a natural caretaker. She stayed home from then on to take care of her father, Lauverne. Because Della took such great care of her dad, Lauverne started calling her "Babe", which was a nickname that followed Della throughout the rest of her years. In Della's twenties is when she started working in what she loved, which was farming. She worked for Euclid Fertilizer, but eventually had to leave to start to take care of her Grandpa, as well as continue the care of her father. Della met the love of her life, Ralph Montreuil, at a wedding dance in 1963. After 4 years of dating, they decided to have a wedding dance of their own, and they got married on April 22, 1967. Eight years later, Della and Ralph welcomed a beautiful baby girl into their lives, Lisa Louise. For many years, Della went on to work in Climax for Harlow Grove, continuing her love of farming by driving beet truck and grain truck. When Della was not fishing or camping, she excelled at snow sled racing. Della actually was the first woman to finish the "Winnipeg to St. Paul" snow sled race in qualifying time. However, what Della really and truly loved the most was being a Grandma. Dustin and Colton were her whole life, and she was willing to do anything and everything for them. She also loved spending time with her niece Corrie and her husband Shawn, as they were two very special people to her. Of course, Della had a soft spot in her heart for her dogs Jackie, Amber, Mustard, and Emma, and they had true unconditional love for her. Della is preceded in death by her parents, Lauverne and Lillian Cormican of Euclid; and grandparents John and Josie Cormican of Argyle, and Fred and Irene Teal of Euclid. Della is survived by her loving husband Ralph "Frenchman" Montreuil of Euclid; daughter Lisa Matheny (Kim) of Fargo, North Dakota; grandsons Dustin Ramstorf and Colton Matheny of Fargo; siblings Leroy Cormican (Kathy), Marilyn Cormican, and Dale Cormican (Sandy); Corrie and Shawn Goodyke of Euclid; many nieces and nephews; and many brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. A memorial service and celebration of Della's life will be held on Monday, September 22, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at Stenshoel-Houske Funeral Home in Crookston, Minnesota with Pastor Bill Reck, officiating. A visitation with Della's family will be for one hour before the service. Stenshoel-Houske Funeral Home will be handling the arrangements.
