Wayne Robert Fuglseth, 73, of Crookston, MN, passed away early Saturday morning, December 16, 2023, in Benedictine Living Community Crookston where he had been a resident for the past month.
Wayne was born in Crookston on April 3, 1950, the son of Chancy and Dorothy (Scott) Fuglseth. While growing up in Fertile, MN he first attended Elementary School, ultimately graduating from Fertile High School with the Class of 1968. A few weeks after graduation Wayne enlisted in the US Marine Corps on July 16th and was off to Marine Barracks, San Diego, CA for his basic training. He then went to Viet Nam as a combat infantryman. Four years later he received his honorable discharge on August 3, 1972 and was assigned to the Marine Corps Reserve. For his service to his country Wayne was awarded the Combat Action Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Medal, RVN Service Medal with 2 Stars, RVN Campaign Medal, and the RVN Civil Action Colors First Class Ribbon.
Upon his return to home Wayne was self-employed for many years, together with his brother, Randy, doing roofing, painting, and carpentry. Their work around the greater Crookston area and beyond earned them a stellar reputation for jobs always well-done. Wayne later drove a taxi in Crookston for a few years and then worked as a machinist until his retirement. In recent years Wayne had been struggling with health issues that were directly related to the time he spent in the jungles of Viet Nam.
Wayne is survived by his 3 children: Jeremiah Fuglseth and his wife, Dophna, of Fargo, ND, Levi Fuglseth of East Grand Forks, MN, and Sarah Fuglseth, a traveling R.N. calling Fargo her home; 4 grandchildren: Donnelly, Owen, Axel, and Abel Fuglseth; 2 brothers, Jim Fuglseth and his wife, Janice, of Fertile, MN, Randy Fuglseth of Crookston; a sister-in-law, Lucille Fuglseth of Fertile; as well as, nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends. Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, Chancy and Dorothy Fuglseth; and brother, Jerome Fuglseth. Blessed be the memory of Wayne Robert Fuglseth.
Wayne did not want a formal memorial service but asked his family to host a time of visitation which will be held at the Stenshoel-Houske Funeral Home in Crookston on Friday, December 22nd, 2023 from 11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. His urn will be buried in Oakdale Cemetery, Crookston, next Spring with Military Honors to be provided by the US Marine Corps Funeral Honors Team from Wahpeton, ND.
