Wanda Puppe

June 15, 1940 — April 24, 2015

Wanda Ann Puppe, 74, of Crookston MN, died peacefully Friday, April 24, 2015, at the Pioneer Memorial Care Center in Erskine, MN. She had been a resident of Pioneer since January of 2014. Wanda was born at Minot, ND on June 15, 1940, one of four children of the union of Melvin and Agnes (Olson) Armstrong. She grew up on a farm by Douglas, ND and spent the early years of her education at a nearby country school. The family moved to Minot in 1948 where she attended Minot Elementary and High Schools. Wanda was united in marriage to Vernon Manor Puppe at the Zion Lutheran Church in Minot in September of 1959. The couple made their home in Minot until moving to Grand Forks, ND in 1963. Together, Wanda and Vernon raised two daughters, Debbie and Candace. Sadly, their son, Vernon Jr., died shortly after his birth. Wanda was employed at Sears in Grand Forks for ten years. Vernon passed away on April 26, 1989. Wanda later worked at the RoadKing Inn for a few years, and then in 1997 moved to Crookston to make her home. She was employed at the cafeteria of RiverView Hospital for three years until her retirement in 2002. Wanda was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Crookston. She enjoyed reading, and was an avid UND and Minnesota Wild hockey fan. She liked listening to late night radio talk shows, going to garage sales, and visiting second-hand stores. Her love of horses was a lifelong passion. Wanda's family and many friends knew her as a very intelligent lady, and a great conversationalist. She was well-versed on a variety of subjects and enjoyed sharing her opinions and listening to those of others. Wanda was very loving and caring, and possessed a remarkable sense of humor. One of her favorite pastimes was sitting outside on the steps, weather permitting, with a cup of coffee. Best of all was the time spent with family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and she loved them all dearly. Wanda will be greatly missed. Grateful to have been a part of her life are her two daughters, Debbie Puppe (Greg Koehnen) of Grand Forks, ND and Candace (Mike) Brouse of Mentor, MN; two grandchildren, Andrew Brouse (Caillie Boucher) and Tessa Brouse (Dalton Newquist), all of Crookston, MN; four great-grandchildren: Hannah Brouse, and Jaden, Cecilia, and Emma Newquist; two siblings, Glenda (Myron) Schroeder of Minot, ND and Mike (Patty) Armstrong of Tolleson, AZ; nieces, nephews, and other relatives. In addition to Vernon, her beloved husband of 29 years, and son, Vernon Jr., Wanda was preceded in death by her parents, Melvin and Agnes Armstrong; and a brother, sister-in-law, and nephew: Gary, Nancy, and Mark Armstrong. May God richly bless Wanda's memory. A memorial service celebrating the life of Wanda Ann Puppe will be held at 10:30am, Friday, May 1, 2015, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Crookston with The Rev. Bill Reck, officiating. Visitation with the family will be for one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at Memorial Park South Cemetery in Grand Forks, ND. Online registry:
