Verleth Oftelie

Verleth Hattie Oftelie, age 86, of Crookston, MN, passed away peacefully, with her family by her side on Saturday, January 14, 2017 at the Villa St. Vincent in Crookston, MN. Verleth was born on March 18, 1930 in Rockville, MN, to Hubert and Adeline (Burger) Finneman. She went to Cold Spring Public Schools. On April 12, 1947, Verleth married the love of her life, Clifford Oftelie. They had three children, Sandi, Carole, and Clifford Jr. They moved to Puyallup, WA and lived there for two years before moving to Crookston, MN. Verleth worked for several retail businesses in Crookston, MN, including the Sweet Shop, the Grill Café, and the Ben Franklin Five and Dime. She then worked for the Crookston Police Department for twenty-one and a half years as a meter maid, among other duties. Verleth retired from the Crookston Police Department in 1988. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church for many years. Verleth loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She also enjoyed taking care of her husband, Clifford. She loved to cook, and spend time outdoors in her garden and going camping. She also enjoyed spending time and swimming with the ladies at the Golden Link Community Center. Verleth is survived by her children, Sandi Oftelie of Moorhead, MN, Carole (Gaylord) Christle of Moorhead, MN, and Clifford Oftelie Jr. of Detroit Lakes, MN; grandchildren, Eric Swenson of Raleigh, NC, Shannon Wollertson of Wichita, KS, Ashley Wollertson of Wichita, KS, and Matthew Oftelie of Detroit Lakes, MN; great-grandchildren, Dillon Swenson, Beth Swenson, Bailey Wollertson, Kyler Oftelie, and Savannah Oftelie; and many other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her husband, Clifford; her parents, Hubert and Adeline; and her brother, David Finneman. May God bless Verleth's memory. There will be a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 20, 2017 at the Stenshoel-Houske Funeral Home in Crookston, MN. Interment will be at Oakdale Cemetery in Crookston, MN in the spring.
