Sylvia Moen

Sylvia Inez Moen, 72, of Crookston passed away June 6, 2015 with her loving daughters by her side. She was born the daughter to William and Edna Olava (Messelt) Harstad on September 24, 1942 in Fertile MN. She was baptized and confirmed at Faaberg Lutheran Church, and graduated Fertile High School in 1960. After high school, Sylvia moved to Crookston working as a nurse's aid at the Bethesda Hospital. On September 1, 1966 she married Gordon Carter Moen at Trinity Lutheran Church of Crookston. Together they were the proud parents of Cynthia and Patricia. Sylvia worked at Anderson Fabrics, Cenex and many local businesses in Crookston. She enjoyed reading, watching TV, puzzles, sewing and attending garage sales. She collected many items. Barbie's, baseball cards and postage stamps were some of her favorites. She valued having coffee and goodies with her friends and family, Monday evenings having a hamburger at the Eagles Club, and sewing quilts and diapers for Lutheran World Relief Kits. Sylvia will be remembered as being very generous and thoughtful of others. Nothing made her happier than being a mom, grandma and making her amazing Christmas roast. Sylvia is survived by her daughters, Cynthia Joy Moen of Fargo ND and Patricia Jean "Patty Jean" (Stanley) Moen-Januszewski of Crookston; grandchildren, Brandilyn Anne, Connor Andrew and Tesa Joy; siblings, Eleanor (Marvin) Olson of Fertile, Elaine (Russell) Krogstad of Crookston, William (Dorothy) Harstad of Fertile and Allen (Carol) Harstand of Burnsville, with many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends. She is preceded in death by her parents and brother-in-law, Russell Krogstad. God Bless the memory of Sylvia Moen. She was a special lady and will be missed by many. A Visitation will be 5PM-7PM Friday June 12 at Stenshoel-Houske Funeral Home of Crookston, with a prayer service at 7PM. Funeral Service will be 2PM Saturday June 13 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church of Crookston, with visitation one hour prior to the service.
