Stuart Bakke

Stuart Allen Bakke, 63, of Crookston, MN, died Monday evening, March 5, 2012, at the Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, ND. Stuart was born in Crookston on September 25, 1948, the son of Sherman and Alma (Dahl) Bakke. His early years were spent in Nielsville, MN, before moving with his family to Crookston in 1957. He was a 1966 graduate of Crookston Central High School, and went on to attend the Northland Community College in Thief River Falls, MN. Stuart then made his home on the family farm, near Maple Bay, and worked for Halstad Engineering at Halstad, MN. Several years ago he moved to Crookston and was employed as a security guard for American Crystal Sugar until his retirement. May God bless Stuart's memory. Family members include a nephew, Justin C. Bakke of Fargo, ND; an aunt, Mary Louise Bakke of Grand Rapids, MN; 7 cousins: Bonnie (Peter)Olin of St. Paul, MN, Kathy Swenson of Northwood, ND, Georgie (Al ) Ramos of Potterville, MI, Laurel Ecklund of Fargo, ND, Sharon (Rick)Szamatula of Duluth, MN, Dan (Barb) Johnson of Brainerd, MN, and Loren "Punky" (Carol) Johnson of Crookston; and many other relatives. Stuart was preceded in death by his parents, Sherman and Alma; a brother, Gary Bakke; 5 uncles, John, Clifford, Helmer, George and James Bakke; 4 aunts, Sigrid Olson, Bella Sawyer, Imogene Johnson and Elaine Eidsmoe; and cousin, Jay Johnson. A memorial service for Stuart Bakke will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, March 13, 2012, at the Stenshoel-Houske Funeral Home in Crookston with The Rev. Bill Reck, officiating. Visitation with the family will be for one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in the Maple Bay Free Lutheran Cemetery, rural Mentor, MN, in the spring.
