Steven Neal Flateland, 71, of Crookston, MN, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Monday, December 8th, 2025. Steven was born on May 25, 1952, in Topeka, KS to Ordean and Estella Flateland.
In his early years, Steven attended school in Trail, MN, and later transferred to the Gonvik school for the remainder of his education. After school, Steven was drafted into the U.S. Army in June of 1973 where he served as a Private Second Class until August of 1974. After returning home from his service, he attended school to become a master electrician. He used his talents as a master electrician to start his own business, SNF Electric.
In his leisure time, Steven loved spending time in the great outdoors hunting and fishing and finding peace in nature in general. He loved to fix thing and he loved to teach his children the necessities of life, such as changing oil in their vehicles or filling out tax forms. Steven was a very honest, smart, rational, and resourceful man who will be dearly missed by those who knew him.
He is survived by his wife, Marilyn Flateland; children, Christopher Flateland, Stephanie (Elijah) Deziel, Megan (Per Kristian) Tresp; his two beloved grandchildren; sister, Belinda (Dan) Dunrud of Badger, MN; and Teri Black of Texas, Penny Berger of Crookston, MN, Julie Nichols of Texas, and Kellie Escobar of Missouri.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Crookston, Minnesota. Visitation with the family will be one hour prior to the service.
