Sophie Elida Wise Amundson, 93, of Crookston, MN, passed away peacefully early Sunday evening, June 10, 2012, at the RiverView Hospital in Crookston, with her family by her side. Sophie was born at Crookston on August 16, 1918, the daughter of Stinus and Karen Berntson. She was raised in Crookston, and graduated from Central High School. Throughout her life Sophie lived in Eldred, MN, Erskine, MN, and Crookston. Sophie married Arthur Elmer Wise in Crookston on October 3, 1939, and the two were blessed by the births of three children: Jay, Jerry, and Debi. Sadly, Arthur passed away in 1978. Six years later, Sophie was united in marriage to Otto Amundson at Eldred, MN. Otto passed away on December12, 1994.
Sophie was a longtime member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Crookston, as well as, the Sons of Norway Morgensol Lodge, and the Riverview Hospital Guild. She enjoyed crocheting, embroidery, gardening, dancing, and playing cards with her grandchildren. Sophie received the RSVP award through the Retired Senior Volunteer Program. Sophie will be missed by her 3 children: Jay (RoseMarie) Wise of Eldred, MN, Jerry (Candice) Wise of Crookston, MN, and Debi (Mark) Hohman of Ada, MN; 10 grandchildren: Michelle (Brad) Asselin of Houston, TX, Mark Wise of Canton, GA, Paula (Bill) Leake of Grand Forks, ND, Kevin (Carrie) Wise of Rochester, MN, Jason (Holly) Wise of Eden Prairie, MN, Chris (Kristin) Wise of East Grand Forks, MN, Tim (Kim) Wise of Anchorage, AK, Jodi (Dale) Huether of West Fargo, ND, Todd (Sarah) Wise of Fertile, MN, and Tommy (Kerry) Wise of Onalaska, WI; 20 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren. Sophie is preceded in death by her husbands, Arthur Wise and Otto Amundson; her parents, Stinus and Karen Berntson, two brothers and one sister. A Memorial Service honoring the life of Sophie Wise Amundson will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, June 22, 2012, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Crookston with The Rev. Bill Reck, presiding. Visitation with the family will be for one hour prior to the service. Interment will take place in the Eldred Cemetery, Eldred, MN.
