Sandra Lynn (Wigand) Skornicka
Sandy passed away on January 15, 2026 at the age if 84 at The Villa St. Vincent Memory Care Center with Laura & Brett by her side.
Sandy was born on September 27, 1941 to Edythe & Adolph Wigand. She went to school in Crookston and graduated in 1959. After graduation, she started working for Northwestern Bell Telephone Company. She moved up with the company and became an operator. She soon met Edward (ED) and even though she didn't want anything to do with him at first, they married in June of 1964. During their early married years, they traveled to Florida for 8 winters for Ed's research job with Dahlgren's. She will gladly tell you she never once missed the snow! In 1978, they adopted Laura in West Palm Beach. They knew they were blessed because there was a double rainbow over the interstate after the adoption was final. Ed got sick with lymphocytic leukemia and passed away in 1989. Sandy raised Laura alone from age 10. Her love for children became even more clear when she started working at Highland School doing the computer during lunchtime. She loved seeing each and every one of the 500+ students every day and remembered all their names, and could even tell the twins apart! Her pride and joy came along in 1998, when her first grandson, Brian was born. Her granddaughter, Kaitlyn came along shortly after in 2000. She absolutely loved spending each and every minute with her grandbabies!! She helped raise Brian & Kaitlyn for several years. In 2009, her third grandson, Aiden was born. And in 2020. a very special delivery arrived with the birth of her great grandson, Carter and again in 2024 with the birth of her great granddaughter, Tullulah. She never dreamed she would get to be a great grandma, and she was definitely great! She was filled to the brim with happiness & love! Sandy was always perfectly put together. She would always say "appearance says a lot about a person." She loved jewelry and sold Avon for many years. She was the most kind and caring person and a loving mom, grandma, great grandma & friend...
Left to mourn her passing are her daughter Laura & fiancé Brett (DeLage) of Crookston, grandson Brian Haverfield & fiancé Leah (Jensen) of Fargo, ND, granddaughter Kaitlyn Haverfield & boyfriend Adam (DesJarlais) of Grand Forks, ND, and grandson Aiden DeLage of Crookston. Great great grandchildren, Carter and Tullulah of Grand Forks, ND, and a few close friends that she kept close to her heart.
She is proceeded in death by her husband, Ed, parents Adolph & Edythe, brother Allan Wigand, nephew, Erick Wigand, and many other relatives and friends.
May Sandy's memory never be forgotten.
A funeral service celebrating Sandy's life will be held at Wesley United Methodist Church, Crookston, MN on Friday January 30, 2026 at 1:00pm. Visitation will be one hour prior. Interment will be held in the Spring.
