Orella Rustad

Orella E. Rustad, 93, a lifelong Crookston resident, died Friday afternoon, February 15, 2013 at RiverView Health in Crookston, with her family at her side. Orella Hedberg was born on October 4, 1919 at Gentilly, MN, daughter of Henry and Delia (Patnode) Hedberg. She grew up at Gentilly and Duluth, settling in the Red Lake Falls (MN) area. She was united in marriage with Orville M. Rustad on October 4, 1938 at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Crookston. They made their home in Crookston. She began working with RiverView Health at the age of sixteen making pies and worked in many areas of healthcare with the hospital and nursing home as a nurse's aide for forty-six years, retiring at age 62. Her husband, Orville, died on March 11, 2007. She was currently living at the Nimens Espegard Apartments. Orella enjoyed baking, embroidery, and gardening. Also reading and playing cards. Her children and their families were her pride and joy. Her children remember that she was part of "The Club" for over fifty years; it started as a sewing club and evolved from there to more of a social gathering in the neighborhood. She and Orville enjoyed fishing and she enjoyed trips to the Casino. Orella is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law: Virginia "Ginger" and Duane Spear of Gentilly, MN, and Cheryl and Ken Pazdernik of Ada, MN; four sons and daughters-in-law, Gary and Mickie Rustad of Gold Canyon, AZ, Ken and Rose Rustad of Fargo, ND, David and Debra Rustad of St. Hilaire, MN, and Robert and Michelle Rustad of Kindred, ND; nineteen grandchildren; forty-five great-grandchildren; & three great great-grandchildren; two sisters: Helen Glass of Thief River Falls and Geraldine "Gerri" (Keith) Benson of West Duluth; many nieces, nephews, and other relatives. She was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Maren, in 1940; an infant grandson, Michael; her husband: Orville on March 11, 2007; her parents; siblings: a sister, Nora Chouinard and a brother, Henry (Toby) Hedberg. The funeral service for Orella E. Rustad will be held at 2:30PM, Thursday, February 21, 2013, at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Crookston. Visitation will be at the Stenshoel-Houske Funeral Home on Wednesday from 5-7PM, with a 7PM prayer service, and at the church for one hour prior to the funeral. Interment will be in the Calvary Cemetery in Crookston.
