Mildred Regeimbal

December 6, 1924 — June 2, 2012

Mildred Ellen Regeimbal, 87, of Crookston, MN, died early Saturday evening, June 2, 2012, at the RiverView Hospital in Crookston, after suddenly taking ill at home. Milly, as she was fondly known, was born at Euclid, MN on December 6, 1924 to George H. and Gladys A. (Birdwell) Casmey. When she was 6 years old the family moved to Harlem, MT for a short time, returning to Euclid in 1933. They later moved to Crookston where Milly attended high school, graduating in 1943. Milly's parents both passed away while she was still in high school and she raised her younger brother, Howard "Hap" and sister, Gladys. Milly never forgot the help she received from Crookston VFW Post 1902 that made it possible for her to do this and keep "the three orphans" all together. After graduation Milly was employed at the 1st National Bank until her marriage to Arnold Reitmeier on November 23, 1947 at the First Presbyterian Church. They were blessed with two children, Gerald and Pauline. Sadly, Arnold died on March 12, 1953. Milly returned to the lst National Bank, working there until 1956. On November 12, 1955 she married Rene H. Regeimbal at St. Anne's Catholic Church. Their marriage was blessed by the births of 4 children: Mark, David, Julie, and Laure. Over the years, and as the kids got older, Milly was employed at Jiffy Fry, The Irishman's Shanty, and Baskerville's Grocery. She was a volunteer at St. Vincent's Hospital during the WWII years, and received a special pin for the hours she spent in caring for the sick. She later worked as a teacher's aide at Eugene Field School, did bookkeeping for the Crookston Times, and for 19 years was a case aide for Polk County Social Services until retiring in 1994. She was also well known for the catering services she provided in Crookston for over 35 years. Milly would be the first to tell you that after raising 8 children, including Hap and Glady, work was her salvation! Incredible sadness found its way into Milly's life with the deaths of her daughter, Pauline, on April 19, 1971, and son, Mark, on December 27, 1975. Both died in accidents that left an entire community in mourning for Milly and her family. Strength of character and a desire to do for others kept Milly going and sustained her. Her greatest joy was watching her other children grow and establish families of their own. After nearly 33 years of wonderful marriage, Rene passed away on September 30, 1998. Milly was a longtime member of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception parish and St. Anne's Sodality. She was a life member of the VFW Auxiliary and a 3 term past-president. She also held membership in the Red Hat Society, and was active in the works of the Golden Link Senior Citizens Center. Milly will be very lovingly remembered and sadly missed by her family and many friends. To quote from Milly herself, "I measure my wealth through the eyes of my family and many friends...and I'm wealthy." Loving family members include Milly's 4 living children: Jerry and Sue Reitmeier, and David and Paulette Regeimbal, of Crookston, Julie and Bruce MacCallum of Warroad, MN, and Laure and David Kruse of Hudson, WI; 10 grandchildren: Jeremy Reitmeier, Sarah Reitmeier, Raielle Peterson, Justin Kruse, Nikolas Regeimbal, Alexandra Regeimbal, Colette Erck, Heidi Wagner, Shari (Philip) MacCallum Clark, and Kristin (Raymond) Dondlinger; 7 great-grandchildren: Jeremy Mark, Kali Elizabeth, and Jeran Michael Reitmeier, John and Scott Clark, and Jarod and Connor Dondlinger; brother, Howard "Hap" (Sandra) Casmey of Arlington, VA, and Hap's children, Mike, Kim, and Kristin; brother-in-law, Leo (Eileen) Tucker of East Grand Forks, MN, and his family, daughter-in-law, Arlene, and son, Jim (Rhonda); and other extended family. In addition to her husbands, Arnold and Rene; daughter, Pauline, and son, Mark; Milly is preceded in death by her parents; sister, Gladys Tucker; and nephew Danny Tucker, and many brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. May God richly bless the memory of Milly Regeimbal.
