Margaret Ann (Stainbrook) Berglund, 84, of Crookston, MN, passed away peacefully Thursday evening, June 28, 2012, at the RiverView Hospital in Crookston.
Margaret was born at Crookston on June 26, 1928, to Frank and Angie (Willette) Stainbrook. She lived much of her life in Crookston, where she was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic faith and graduated from the Cathedral High School. Margaret later met the love of her life, Oscar "Ike" Berglund, and the two were united in marriage on September 23, 1948 at Crookston's Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception. Together, they raised 8 children: Pat Ann, Mary Lynn, Bonnie, John, Mike, Sandra, Cindy, and Pam. Margaret worked as a nurse's aide at St. Francis Nursing Home in Crookston until 1969, when she and Ike moved to Minneapolis. While there, she was employed at St. Olaf's Nursing Home, and also as a housekeeper for St. Phillip's Catholic Church. In 1985, Ike retired, and they moved to Lincolnton, Georgia, where they remained until returning to Crookston in 1999. Sadly, Ike passed away on November 4, 2007. Margaret was a faithful member of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception parish in Crookston and a past member of the St. Rose of Lima Circle. She and Ike were also former members of the Historical Society of Lincolnton, GA. Margaret's faith was very important to her and she could often be found at church assisting in any way possible. She enjoyed cooking and baking, dining out with friends, and spending time with her children and their families. May God bless Margaret's memory. Mourning Margaret's passing are her 8 children: Pat Ann Renslen, Mary Lynn Johnson, and Bonnie (David "Zuk") Isaacson, all of Crookston, MN, John (Claudia) Berglund of Crystal, MN, Mike (Mary Elizabeth) Berglund of Woodbury, MN, Sandra (Michael) Sullivan of Andover, MN, Cindy (Steve) Marple of Minneapolis, MN, and Pam Messinger of Coon Rapids, MN; 16 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; 3 sisters, Mary Tuseth of Crookston, Rosie Wolf of Coon Rapids, MN, and Karen "Cookie" (Glen) French of Loveland CO; 3 brothers, Ron (Pat) Stainbrook of Denver, CO, and Dennis Stainbrook and James (Lorraine) Stainbrook, both of Crookston; and many nieces, nephews, and other family. Margaret was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 59 years, Ike; a grandson, John Johnson; her parents, Frank and Angie Stainbrook; and 5 brothers: Jerry, Norman, Dale, John "Jack," and Roger Stainbrook. The Mass of Christian Burial for Margaret Ann Stainbrook will be held at 10:00 am, Tuesday, July 3, 2012, at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Crookston, with The Very Rev. Bob Schreiner, presiding. Visitation will be at Cathedral on Monday from 5-7pm, with a 6:30pm prayer service, and also for one hour prior to the funeral. Interment will be in the Calvary Cemetery, Crookston.
