Lois Marie Samuelson, 88, of Crookston, MN, passed away Sunday morning, September 12, 2021, in the Benedictine Living Community Crookston where she had been a resident for several months.
Lois was born in Crookston on June 15, 1933 to Nickolas and Mildred (Berry) DeBoer. After several moves her family settled in Roome township and Lois began her first years of school in the nearby Eldred Consolidated School. She later attended Climax (MN) High School through the first half of her Senior year when the family moved to Crookston where she completed her education with the Class of 1951. Lois was then employed at the National Tea Grocery Store and later for Polk County State Bank. On February 13, 1960 she was united in marriage to Roger D. Samuelson at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church. Daughter, Lynn Marie, was later born while she and Roger were living in their first home on South Washington Avenue in Crookston. A few years later the family moved to Andover township, living in an old farmhouse until their new home was completed a few years later. Farm life could be hard at times but Lois never complained and during harvest time was kept busy preparing meals for the threshing crew. All the men gave Lois rave reviews because she was an excellent cook!
Lois was a faithful member of Trinity Lutheran Church and WELCA, and also held memberships in the American Legion and VFW Auxiliarys. As an avid bowler for many years Lois participated in the Wednesday afternoon Women’s League with friends and the Thursday evening Mixed Doubles League with Roger. Many wonderful family get-togethers were had with the greater family all together at their lake home on Maple Lake near Mentor, MN. Lois very much enjoyed traveling with Roger and friends to visit Europe and much of mainland United States and Hawaii. They were also able to spend several winters in Arizona and Florida. Lois will be remembered for her love of all things Minnesota Twins related. She attended many games in the Twin Cities in past years and collected all kinds of souvenirs. The television set in her room in the Villa was always tuned to the station that carried their games, with strict instructions to staff and visiting family and friends that no one better ever change the channel.
Lois is survived by Roger, her beloved husband of 61 years; their daughter, Lynn Samuelson of Crookston; granddaughter, Tracie Bristol and her husband, Jens Gilman of Hopkins, MN; 2 sisters, Janet Evans of Ottertail, MN and Debbie DeBoer Hanson, and husband, Marc, of Crookston; sister-in-law, Juanita Samuelson of Crookston; 2 cousins, Henrietta “Hank” Beiswenger and Dale Van Horn and wife, Norma, of Crookston; and many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Nick and Mildred DeBoer; and 3 siblings: infant brother, Dennis, 11-year-old, Jerry, and Ethel Brubakken and her husband, Thomas; and from Roger’s side of the family: parents-in-law, Richard and Helen Samuelson; 3 brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Robert Samuelson and his first wife, Ramona, Charles and Idella Samuelson, and Lester and Bernice Samuelson; and a niece, Margaret Unruh. Lois will be very lovingly remembered and sadly missed by all.
