LaVerne Sevigny

October 30, 1937 — December 22, 2017

LaVerne Sevigny, age 80, of Crookston, MN passed away  on December 22, 2017 at Villa St. Vincent.  LaVerne was born on October 30, 1937 to Harvey and Lorena (Delorme) Trudeau in Hibbing, MN.   LaVerne grew up on the Iron Range until moving with her parents to Crookston, MN in 1947.  She attended St. Joseph Academy and graduated in 1956.  After graduating, LaVerne worked in the surgical department at St. Francis Hospital in Crookston, MN.

At a New Year’s Eve dance, she met Wilmer Sevigny and they wed 8 months later on Oct. 8, 1959 at St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Crookston, MN.  For the next 25 years, she devoted her time to be a wife, mother, and caregiver.  In 1984, she became a CNA at Pioneer Memorial Care Center in Erskine, MN and worked until retirement in 2002.

LaVerne loved gardening, sewing, and visiting with family and friends.  LaVerne also loved to bake.  One of her children’s fondest memories was getting off the school bus and smelling the fresh baked bread and rolls.  Wilmer and LaVerne began to spend winters in Wellton, AZ in 2001.  She loved the warmth of the sunshine and the friendships that grew in the park community.  LaVerne had a kind and caring disposition.  Others always came first.

LaVerne was an active member of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Crookston and previously St. Joseph’s parish in Brooks, MN.  She belonged to the St. Anne’s Society.  LaVerne developed many friendships while belonging to the Holly Hock Homemakers, as well as the Red Hat Society.

LaVerne is survived by her husband, Wilmer Sevigny of Crookston, 5 children, Jerome Sevigny of Crookston, Brian (Tammy) Sevigny of Loretto, Michelle (Sonny) Fitch of Nicholasville, KY, Monica (Brent) Swenson of Erskine, Cynthia (Bradley) Stone of Mankato, 9 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren.

LaVerne was preceded in death by her parents, 2 brothers, Bernard and Richard, and son-in-law Michael Hoffart.

Visitation will be Friday, Jan. 5, 2018 at Stenshoel-Houske Funeral Home, in Crookston, MN from 5:00-7:00 pm, with a prayer service to follow at 7:00 pm.  Funeral services will be Saturday, Jan. 6, 2018 at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, in Crookston, MN at 11:00 am. The Very Reverend Vincent Miller will be presiding.
