Obituary

Larry Wayne Herberg, 68, of Harlingen TX, formerly of Crookston MN passed away on June 3, 2026, with loving family beside him.

Larry was born in Crookston on June 27, 1957, to Roger and Sandy. He attended Crookston schools all his life and graduated in 1975. After high school Larry married Lori (Phalen) in 1975 and enlisted in the U.S Army. They were first stationed in Georgia where their first son Ben was born. Shortly after Larry received new orders and was stationed in Germany where their son Adam was born. They made Germany their home for several years before being transferred back to the states where they made Crookston MN their home and where their son Jacob was born. Larry was honorably discharged from the Army. He then took a job that brought him and the family to Hallock, MN where their daughter Grace was born. It was then that they decided they wanted to move their family back to Crookston and make it their home.

Larry worked throughout his life a variety of jobs Including; Massey Ferguson, semi driver for Indian head, and a local farmer, MidContinent before settling into Maintenance Supervisor at New Flyer of America from 1996- his retirement.

Larry married Sharon (Olson) in 2001. They lived in Crookston for several years before buying a house out in the country in East Grand Forks. Upon retirement Larry and Sharon decided to be “snow birds” they spent half the year at their home in Harlingen TX, and the other half the year in MN at their lake home. Larry loved spending time outdoors doing any type of yard work or working on the house he could find. He was constantly tinkering on something whether it needed fixing or not. He was an honest and hard working man that’s didn’t stop for anything. The most stubborn man you’d meet too! Anytime one of us in the family needed advice or help he was the first one there and ready to put in a days worth of work. He had a profound love for his children, grandchild, and great- grandchildren.

Larry was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He loved everyone wholeheartedly and deeply. Would always go out of his way to put others needs above his own. He will be deeply missed by all those that knew him.

Loving family members include his wife Sharon of 26 years; Son Ben and Carrie Herberg, and their children, Luke, Owen, and Jonah of Andover MN; Son Adam Herberg of Grand Forks, ND and his children, Maura, Dresden, and Ellyse; Son Jacob and Leah Herberg and children, Isabelle and (Clay) Labine , Vincent, Josiah, Henry, Kailyn, Brynlee, Amelia, Molly, Hattie, and Levi of Crookston MN, Grace Herberg (Lucas) and their children, Avah (Wilfredo) Andrew, Isaiah, Olivia and Elizabeth of Mounds View, MN Great Grandchildren Nikko, Noah, Noel, and Nathaniel Rivera.
