Kim Marie Goering, 62, of Crookston, MN, passed away Sunday morning, October 6th, at the Benedictine Living Community in Crookston.
Kim was born in Crookston, MN, on March 6, 1962. The first of 5 children of the union of Kenneth and Myra (Erickson) Kaste. Her early years were spent in Red Lake Falls, MN, until moving with her family to Fertile in 1968. She attended school in Fertile and graduated in 1980. After high school, she attended the University of Minnesota Crookston. On January 1, 1982, Kim met the love of her life, Charles Blane Goering. They were united in marriage on October 1, 1983, at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Crookston. In the coming years, their marriage would be blessed by the births of Blaine, Cooper, & Ciara. Through the years, Kim worked at several local businesses, including the Northland Inn, Schraeder Auto Parts, City Hall, Eickhoff Columbaria, and a short stint with Multi-County HRA in Mentor. She and Chuck also owned Harvey’s Market from 1997-1999.
In the spring of 2007, Kim fell sick with an auto-immune disease. It was an illness that would affect the rest of her life. Doctors originally said she was unlikely to survive 6 months. However, Kim had other plans. She was a fighter and stayed positive through the ups and downs of the next 17 years.
She was blessed with the birth of her two grandchildren in 2012 and 2015. Grandma Kim was loved dearly by Joseph and Ashlyn and she loved spending time joking and playing with them whenever she could. In December of 2016, Kim and Chuck moved to Maple Lake near Mentor, MN. They enjoyed living the lake life together until Chuck passed away in 2021. After Chuck's passing, Kim moved back to Crookston.
Kim loved spending time with family and friends. She made friends easily everywhere she went, including at the Summit in Crookston where she lived for the last year of her life in assisted living. She enjoyed playing games and visiting with her friends at bingo. In August of 2023, Kim was baptized at Bible Baptist Church in Crookston, something she was very proud of.
Kim is survived by her three children and daughter in law: Blaine and Lindsey Goering of Crookston, Cooper Goering of Crookston, and Ciara Goering; 2 beloved grandchildren who will miss ‘Grandma Kim’ dearly, Joseph and Ashlyn; Mother, Myra Kaste (Dave Gilbertson), 4 siblings and their spouses: Keith and Diane Kaste of Ada, MN, Kenneth Kaste, Kay Kaste, and Kelvin Kaste (Michele Anderson), all of Fertile, MN. From Chuck’s side of the family, 8 siblings and their spouses: Brenda and Al Hagemeier of Fargo, ND, Roberta “Bobbie” and Roger Valley of Red Lake Falls, MN, David and Kelly Goering of Plymouth, MN, Don and Theresa Goering and Craig and Kristy Goering of Grand Forks, ND, Duane and Alice Goering of Peyton, CO, Edward and Doris Goering of Colorado Springs, CO, and Tracy and Jeff Musolf of Shawnee, KS, as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Kim was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Goering; father, Kenneth Kaste; father-in-law and mother-in-law, David and Shirley Goering; and niece and Goddaughter, Morgan Kaste. Kim will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by all who were a part of her life.
