Kenneth Grove

May 26, 1941 — March 10, 2012

Kenneth W. "Ken" Grove, 70, of Crookston, MN, and a former longtime Climax, MN farmer, went to be with the Lord early Saturday morning, March 10, 2012, at the RiverView Care Center in Crookston. Ken was born in Crookston on May 26, 1941, the son of Arthur and Idella (Larson) Grove. He grew up on the family farm near Climax, and was baptized and confirmed at the Sand Hill Lutheran Church. Ken attended Climax schools and the Northwest School of Agriculture in Crookston before entering the U.S. Army in 1958. On June 2, 1959 he was united in marriage to Mary Montreuil at Ft. Knox, KY. Their union was blessed by the births of three sons and a daughter: Chris, Brian, Becky, and Shane. During much of his military service Mary was able to join him, as he was stationed in Kansas and Alaska. Following his honorable discharge Ken and Mary returned to Climax, where he farmed until retirement. Ken was a longtime member of the NRA. He looked forward to hunting, fishing, and boating, but his real joy came from taking his family camping. Often those outings would begin in the wee hours of the morning, with his kids never sure where they were going to wake up. But they always knew it would be a fun time. Ken and Mary spent summers at their lake home on Maple Lake, and winters in Arizona. When heading south every year they knew they would be doing some hiking and kayaking, and were always eager to renew the many friendships formed in their RV park. Recently, Ken had rededicated his life to the Lord, and he and Mary had been attending the Resurrection Free Lutheran Church in Beltrami, MN. He will be very fondly remembered and sadly missed by his family and many friends. Ken is survived by his loving wife of fifty-two years, Mary; three sons and a daughter: Chris (Kathy) Grove of Las Vegas, NV, Brian (Sandy) Grove of Fargo, ND, Becky Molskness of Viking, MN, and Shane (Denae) Grove of East Grand Forks, MN; eleven grandchildren: Shannon, Brandy, Brooke, Brandon, Danielle, Cheyenne, Shantel, Shaelin, Bryana, Courtney, and Andrew; and two great-grandchildren, McKenna and Zoe. He is also survived by two sisters, LaRayne Morvig of Sun Lakes, AZ and Carol (Robert) Caouette of Apache Junction, AZ; a brother, Vernon Grove of Crookston; a sister-in-law, Lois Grove of Crookston; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Idella; son-in-law, Allan Molskness; brother, Mike Grove; brother-in-law, Obert Morvig; and a nephew and niece, Jason Grove and LouAnn Skrei. May Ken's memory be forever cherished. The funeral service for Kenneth W. "Ken" Grove will be held at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 14, 2012, at the Resurrection Free Lutheran Church in Beltrami, MN, with Pastor Dale Finstrom, officiating. Military Honors will be provided by the Crookston Veterans Council. Visitation will be at the Stenshoel-Houske Funeral Home in Crookston on Tuesday from 5-7:00 p.m., with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service, and at the church for one hour prior to the funeral. Interment will be in the Oakdale Cemetery, Crookston. (Online registry at www.stenshoelhouske.com)
