Katherine Mykleby

April 26, 1919 — July 1, 2012

Katherine Sullivan Mykleby, 93, an Eldred, MN native, died peacefully on July 1, 2012 at Marshall's Health Care Center in Machias, Maine. She was born on April 26, 1919 in Euclid, the daughter of Katherine and Matthew Sullivan. She graduated from St. Joseph's High School in 1937 and attended Moorhead State Teacher's College in Moorhead, MN. After graduation, she taught for several years in area schools including Eldred Consolidated School where she met her husband, Hillard. They were married in 1943. After World War II they moved to Eldred where she raised four children. Katherine was a longtime member of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Crookston. She was a loving mother and grandmother, a great cook and gardener. She enjoyed summers at their camp at Lake of the Woods and had many good times there playing cards and enjoying the walleye feeds and the sunsets.

Katherine patiently suffered from Parkinson's for the last 30 years of her life. In 1997 when she could no longer live alone, she moved to Maine to live with her daughter and family. For the last ten years she has lived at Marshall Health Care. Katherine was predeceased by her husband, Hillard and one brother, Edward Sullivan. She is survived by her four children, Jim of Leadville, Colorado, Joyce (Robert von Rotz) of Cooper, Maine, Gary of Warroad, Minnesota, and Leslie of Leadville, Colorado; four grandchildren, Todd Mykleby, Kristina Kustra, and Michael and Noah von Rotz; two great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, August 20, 2012, in the Sand Hill Cemetery in Climax.
