Junice Mulvaney

February 9, 1923 — January 10, 2018

Junice Bernice Mulvaney, 94, of Crookston, MN, passed away early Wednesday morning, January 10, 2018, in Brooklyn Park, MN, at her daughter's home with family members at her side.

Junice was born on February 9, 1923 in Climax, MN. Her parents, Hans and Mary (Rarick) Thompson, farmed just northeast of Climax. Junice was baptized and confirmed at Climax Lutheran Church.  At the age of 10, her family moved to Woodside Township, Maple Bay, where she attended country school. She later lived and worked on her grandparents’ farm near Climax, while attending Climax high school and graduating with the Class of 1940.

During World War II Junice was employed by Pittsburgh Ordinance in Pittsburgh, PA from 1942-1945. She then attended the College of Medical Technology in Minneapolis, graduating in 1947. She moved to Crookston and in 1949 began employment with Northwestern Clinic as a Lab Technician. Junice was united in marriage to “the voice of the valley,” Donald John Mulvaney, a local radio announcer with KROX, on April 14, 1951 at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Crookston. Junice was a devoted member of the Cathedral Parish, St. Francis Circle, the Cathedral Choir, and the Hosanna Choir. After raising an active family of 6 children, and following Don's retirement, she retired from Northwestern Clinic in 1991. In retirement, Junice and Don enjoyed singing in their church choirs, and traveling to visit their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, with the annual highlight being a family reunion at Camp Corbett for 20 plus years. Sadly, Don passed away on September 6, 2011. Junice loved working in her yard and flower gardens and sharing her annual harvest of apples with friends and family. She will be very lovingly remembered and sadly missed by all who shared in her life.

Junice is survived by her daughters: Kim (Ron) Kroll of St. Paul MN, Joan (Tom) Langdon of Cloquet MN, and Beth Ann Mulvaney of Brooklyn Park, MN; sons: Tom (Lou Ann) Mulvaney of Crookston, MN; Cory (Debra) Mulvaney of Fargo, ND;  and Jim (Deb) Mulvaney of Brooklyn Park, MN; 14 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren, with another on the way! She also leaves her brothers, Herman (Camilla) Thompson and Maze (Arlys) Thompson of Fertile, MN; sister: Jeanette LaBarre of Eden Prairie, MN; sister-in-law: Josephine Mulvaney of Bloomfield, NJ; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 60 years, Don; parents, Hans and Mary Thompson; sister, Vera Mae Brunner; and brothers-in-law: Jerry Mulvaney, Bill Brunner, and Jerry Labarre.

Mass of Christian Burial for Junice Mulvaney will be held at 2:00pm, Tuesday, January 16, 2018, in the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Crookston with The Very Rev. Vincent Miller, presiding. Visitation will be at the Stenshoel-Houske Funeral Home on Monday from 5-7:00pm, with a 7:00pm prayer service, and also at the Cathedral for one hour prior to the funeral. Interment will follow in the Calvary Cemetery, Crookston.
