Joan Ellen Holmberg went home to Jesus on September 15, 2026. She was born to parents George & Agnes Brooks on June 11, 1933. Joan was the youngest amongst her five siblings including her twin sister. She was a proud graduate of Harding High School and spent most of her life on St. Paul's East Side. She married Merlin Holmberg on May 16, 1953 and they raised their family of five enjoying camping, gardening, snowmobiling, fishing, having picnics and simply enjoying time with one another and extended family! Joan always made birthdays and holidays special with her wonderful cooking and baking! Joan was an active member at First Lutheran Church of St. Paul where she volunteered time and shared her talents with many throughout the years; particularly enjoying her time spent at Bay Lake Camp and with the Hmong Program where she shared of herself but most importantly learned about their culture - she really enjoyed that experience! Joan was proud of all of her Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren - always welcomed them and enjoyed spending as much time as possible with them. She attended a variety of sporting events, concerts and musicals - there to cheer them on and was proudly present for their big life events! Preceded in death by her husband of nearly 64 years, her son Rodney & Daughter-in-Law Stephanie, Grandson Harlan, her parents, siblings (Phyllis, Lois, Dorothy, Paul, Allen and June), in-laws and many extended family members & friends. Joan will be remembered for being kind, caring and having a warm, welcoming smile as well as her love for family.
She is survived by children Ramona & Lyle Engel of Wyoming MN, Shari Collier of St. Paul MN, Gina & Eric Carlson of Champlin MN & Anita Brekken of Crookston MN, grandchildren: Tara (Tim), Chris, Brandon (Ashley) & Troy (Allie), Jason (Charee), Justin (Julie) & Jessica (Jared) Lynsey (Chris), Jenna (Dakota) & Brenton, Casey (Grace), Drew (Hailey) & Trey (Rachel), Derek (Samantha) & Austen and her sister-in-law Barb Holmberg.
