Jerome “Jerry” George Amiot, 84, of Crookston, MN, passed away peacefully with his children by his side, on August 12, 2026 at Sanford Hospital.

Jerry was born in Crookston at St. Vincent Hospital, on March 16, 1942 to Rene Rosaire and Dora Celina (Raymond) Amiot. He lived for a short time on the Amiot family farm near Red Lake Falls before they moved into the house that he was currently living in, a house his father and a crew moved, and his father was well known for difficult house moving like that house, which was about to fall into the river. He worked with his father, Rene’s House Moving, until he was mentored in drywall construction at Crookston Drywall, where he worked until he opened his own drywall business, Jerry Amiot’s Drywall, in 1963.

He was united in marriage to Priscilla Veenstra on November 16, 1963. Soon after they were blessed with a daughter and three sons and then moved a very small house to a lot next to his in-laws. Over many years the family added on to the house, as he put it, “it was a family project and we did all the work ourselves”. He continued to work in his drywall business, sharing his expertise with his boys of course, until he retired in 2007 (or 2018 officially), plus he refurbished a few old cars and a boat almost completely from scratch, and gardening, he loved gardening. Even though he worked hard, he had this amazing gentleness to him. He was always involved in his children’s lives as much as he could be. He was a devout catholic, a member of St. Anne’s Catholic Church and then the Cathedral of Immaculate Conception, in church every Sunday, as it was well known he could fill in as an usher on any given Sunday, which he did often and he truly enjoyed it.

On August 26th, 2012 Jerry and Claire Rhode joined their lives together in a Ceremony of Commitment at Maple Lake. Before losing Claire in 2016 they enjoyed traveling together, with many souvenirs to prove it, and attending the many grandchildren’s school events and watching Tori’s boyfriend race.

Ask anyone who knew him and they would tell you how kind, quiet, and yet very strong he was. He had a smile that would light up a room. He loved his family and spending time with them, going fishing, camping and spending lots of time at the lake, Pine Lake by Gonvick, a cabin on Maple Lake, and then at Trinity Point. He liked making children laugh with his Donald duck impression. And he never said no to a hug.

Jerry will be dearly missed by his children, Sheila Champagne, Jay Amiot, and Aaron Amiot of Crookston, MN: his sister Marcella (James) Armstrong of South Carolina, his sister-in-law Joyce (Duane) Magsam, his brothers Dennis Amiot, Henry Amiot, Johnny Amiot, of Crookston, MN: his grandchildren Maranda ”Mandi” (Jake) Arnt, Malaina “Lainee” (Mike) Roda, Cadin, Maxim, and Dominic Champagne, Sarena (Shane Reynolds) Amiot, Autumn Kron: great grandchildren, Carter, Cameryn, and Brayden: and his many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by both of his wives, his son Joel, his parents: his sisters Dori, Marion, Donna Mae, and Karen; and his brothers, Daniel, Timothy, and Alric.

A prayer service will be held at Stenshoel-Houske Funeral Home in Crookston, MN on Sunday, August 23, 2026, at 7:00 p.m. with a visitation starting two hours prior at 5:00 p.m. His funeral service will be at The Cathedral of The Immaculate Conception in Crookston, MN on Monday, August 24, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. with visitation starting one hour prior at 1:00 p.m.
