George Myrold

April 3, 1921 — June 25, 2013

George Edwin Myrold, age 92, of Crookston, MN, died in the early morning hours of June 25, 2013, at Essentia Health in Fargo, ND, with his daughter, Kristy, at his side. His death followed a stroke suffered on June 11th.

George was born in Grygla, MN on April 3, 1921, the youngest of nine children born to Christian and Anna (Skarsten) Myrold. He was born on the original homestead, established in the early 1900's by his father's family. George's family moved from Grygla to the Ada area in 1925, where they had a small farm and raised cattle. He recalled stories of his youth, and how he would ride his horse through the fields and ditches in search for adventure. George attended high school at Crookston's Northwest School of Agriculture, where he played hockey and football. He left school to join the U.S Army and was very proud of his years in the service. George often reminisced about tales at his various posts throughout the United States, once hitchhiking cross country from California to get home. On November 11, 1950 George was united in marriage to LouCeil Geneva Cuthbertson of rural Amenia, ND. LouCeil was the love of his life and the couple enjoyed many years together. While raising his family in Crookston he continued to work on the family farm with his brothers. He was a hard working man, always willing to lend a helping hand no matter the job. He worked as a surveyor, contractor, mechanic and even filled up the long winter months driving the school bus. Additionally, he spent time driving a locomotive for the American Crystal Sugar Company in East Grand Forks. George was a longtime member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, and also held membership in the Crookston Masonic Lodge, from which he received special recognition for his tenure with the organization. Although his interests and jobs were many, George loved more than anything to spend time with his family. The Myrold's enjoyed the brisk winter months skating on their backyard rink created by their devoted father. George, an avid skater, taught his kids how to skate and even continued to "lace em up" well into his 80's. George was very proud of his grandchildren and their accomplishments. He spent many nights attending sporting events and listened to all the away games on KROX. His last years were spent peacefully in his favorite place, "the country", with his daughter Joni and her family at the farm in Roseau, MN. Left to cherish many wonderful memories of their time together are his son, daughters, and their families: Nancy and Larry Hanson and their children , Amber Lindemoen (Hannah), and Brian and Megan Hanson (Madalyn and Brody); Jon and Debbie Myrold and their children, Christopher and Gelavij Myrold (Ruby and Van), Bethany and Jon Barvels, Amy, and Hayley; Joni and Leelan Evans and their children, Eliza, Joey, and Tabitha; and Kristy and Jason Leas and their children, Brittney, Brooke and Bailey Morris, Sarah and Paul Rasmussen (Britlyn and Braylee), Jake Leas, and Ashley and Ryan Brekken (Jocelyn); and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives. In addition to his beloved wife of 53 years, LouCeil, George was preceded in death by his parents; 2 sisters, Mabel and Hazel; and 6 brothers: Al, Art, Arnold, Con, Clarence, and Joe. May God bless George's memory. The funeral service for George E. Myrold will be held at 3:00 pm, Friday, June 28, 2013, at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Crookston with The Rev. Greg Isaacson, officiating. Visitation will be at Trinity for one hour prior to the funeral. Interment will be in the Oakdale Cemetery in Crookston with Military Honors provided by the Crookston Veterans Council.
