Genevieve Ricard, 84, of Crookston, MN passed away peacefully surrounded by family on April 23, 2026, at Riverview Hospital in Crookston.
Genevieve was born on December 16, 1941, near Dorothy, MN, the daughter of Hubert and Mildred (Schultz) Huot. She was raised on the family farm and graduated from Lafayette High School, Red Lake Falls, MN in 1959. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Dorothy's Catholic Church, Dorothy, MN. Genevieve was employed by various places of employment then met the love of her life, Bernard, at a wedding dance. They were married in a double wedding ceremony on July 13, 1963, then moved to Milwaukee, WI, where they became parents of two children, Michael and Kim. In 1976 they moved to Crookston, MN. When the children grew older, she became employed at Biermaier Chiropractic Clinic in Crookston, MN, where she remained employed until her retirement.
Genevieve was a devoted wife, tireless mother, loving grand and great grandmother. She enjoyed spending time with family and shopping, but she especially enjoyed outdoor activities, most notably hiking, biking, skiing, and world travel with Bernard in their later adult and retirement years. She will always be remembered for her sassy wit, meticulous appearance, and the famous line, "I baked," while producing a beautifully, pre-packaged, seasonal pie from Hugo's, though her homemade cheesecake was what we all craved.
Genevieve was preceded in death by her parents; infant sister Marie, a brother, Donald "Bud" Huot, a sister Mary Jean (Ronald) Donarski, half-sisters Stella (Ronald "Sonny") Kennedy, Lucille (Irvin) Ostlund, a sister Dolores (Alan) Montreuil, a brother Eddie Huot, brothers-in-law Ronald Donarski, Lawrence Ricard, Adolph Donarski, and Bill Ryan, and a sister-in-law Pat (Wilfred) Huot.
Genevieve is survived by Bernard, her loving husband of 62 years, and children Michael Ricard of Phoenix AZ, and Kim (Dale) Larson of West Fargo, ND; grandchildren Casey Larson of West Fargo, ND, Nick (Erin) Larson of Moorhead, MN, and Rachel (Taylor) Burns of Horace, ND; five great grandchildren, Ireland, Norah Robertson, Braxton, Beau Burns, Sean Larson. She also leaves behind six brothers and sisters, Bernetta (Adolph) Donarski of Crookston, MN, Lorena (Harry) Nohre of Fertile, MN, Elaine (Lawrence) Ricard of Beltrami, MN, Leonard "Red" (Darlene) Huot of Red Lake Falls, MN, Wilfred "Willie"(Pat) Huot of Grand Forks, ND, and Darlene (Bill) Ryan of Vernal, UT; a sister-in-law Gladyce ("Bud") Huot of Red Lake Falls, MN; many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews.
A funeral service honoring Genevieve's life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, at the Cathedral of Immaculate Conception in Crookston, MN. Visitation will be one hour prior at 1:00 p.m. A burial service will take place at a later date.
