Gene “Geno” Alan Whitehead, 61, of rural Red Lake Falls, passed away on Friday, February 10, 2023.
Geno was born in Minneapolis on August 30, 1961, the son of Harold and Janice (Herrmann) Whitehead. He was confirmed May 1, 1977, at Anoka Covenant Church. Geno graduated from Anoka Senior High School in 1980. He married Darcee Groth at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Crookston on August 22, 1998. Geno lived in Anoka, Red Lake Falls, and most recently near Gentilly. He travelled with the carnival from 1985-1987 and has worked for Phoenix Industries, Crystal Sugar, New Flyer, and Boll Farms.
Geno served in the Army National Guard for several years, receiving Basic Training at Ft. Gordon, SC. He served with the 34th Red Bull Infantry Division. He liked spending time on his small hobby farm where he raised horses, goats, pigs, chickens, geese, and turkeys. Geno enjoyed time outdoors, camping and kayaking. Geno especially loved spending time with his family and friends.
Geno is survived by his wife, Darcee, Gentilly, MN; son, Matthew (Kristine Roberts) Melton of Isanti, MN; daughter, Chantel (Cory) Uriell of Pisek, ND; grandchildren; Braxton Melton, Cameryn Mathwig, Jude Seddon, Lucy Uriell, BradLee Uriell; brother. John (Barbara) Whitehead of Ft. Worth, TX; and sister, Gina (John) Gilmore of Naples, FL. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Janice Whitehead.
Geno’s life will be celebrated at a 1:00 p.m. memorial service to be held Monday, February 27, 2023, at the Stenshoel-Houske Funeral Home, Crookston, with The Rev. Matthew Meyer, officiating. Visitation with the family will be for one hour prior to the service. Burial will take place at a later date.
