Obituary

Edward Robert Amiot, 79, of Crookston MN died from stage 4 liver cancer peacefully at home on June 10th, 2026, in the loving arms of his wife Patty, with family members nearby.

Ed was born in Crookston at St. Vincent's Hospital on August 5th, 1946, to Victor and Adele (Fournier) Amiot. He attended the Catholic schools in Crookston up until 1964 where he transferred to Central High School and graduated in 1965.

Ed began work as a paper boy at age 10. He had routes for the Crookston Times and Grand Forks Herald that he shared with his brothers. He enjoyed riding along with his dad in the milk truck, visiting farmers and picking up the milk and cream in big milk cans for Sanitary Dairy. Through high school he worked at City Service Gas Station for Marian Hanson. After high school Ed worked for Bridgeman Creamery and American Crystal Sugar.

Ed honorably served in the US Army from 1966-1968. While Ed was stationed in Germany, his brother Al served in Vietnam and Bern served in the Air Force in Topeka, KS.

In 1970 Ed began printing for the Crookston Daily Times until 1982. As a sideline Ed owned Ed's Tropical Fish and Fireplace Shop from 1976-1978. Then in 1982 after managing Ye Ole Print Shoppe, he purchased it. When his pressman, Howard Washburn retired, Ed took on all press tasks. Ed was known to say, "Why should I retire. I love what I do!" This was his motto until illness prevented him from continuing. His wonderful employees and friends, Becky Roesch and Kelly LaPlante, have faithfully kept the customers' needs met.

Ed married Judy Anderson on January 25th, 1969. To that union were born Jeremy ("Jay") and Darin. Sadly, Darin died November 25th, 1990, in his senior year of high school in a truck/train accident.

Ed married his true love, Patricia (Patty) Proulx, on August 13th, 1993. Crookston has always been their home. Ed loved to get away to sunny places in the winter. For 29 years they spent time in his favorite place, Maui, Hawaii. There he experienced a highlight in his life of baptism by immersion by his dear friend and Christian mentor, Bob Vanderwell. Bob remained his mentor and friend along with the entire Vanderwell family of Alberta, Canada. After the Covid pandemic, Ed and Patty began traveling to Mazatlán, Mexico. From these places they have made many lifelong friends. Together Ed and Patty enjoyed gardening, landscaping and tending the birds at his feeders, especially the blue jays. In 2025 they were recognized along with others by the City of Crookston for their community service tending to two local gardens. When Ed learned that his illness could not be cured, he declared, "I just want to sit in my patio, listen to the birds and watch the grass grow for a little while. "

Ed's surviving family members include his wife, Patty; his son, Jeremy ("Jay") and his children, Alex (Mandie) Stoe and their children Luna and Maddie of Crookston, Cameron (Joshua) Bregier and their children Emmy, Merric, and Ezra of Crookston; stepchildren Andrew (Jane) Skretvedt of Fargo, ND, Dr. John (Rachel) Skretvedt and their children Paul, Jacob, and Jillian of Willmar, MN, and Philip Skretvedt of Columbia Heights, MN; brothers and their spouses, Bernard and Lorretta Amiot of Winder, GA, their daughter Rainey (Jon) McDorman and Allen and Mary Amiot of Bloomington, MN and their son Tony Amiot and daughter Nicole (Jon) Erickson and children. Brothers- and sisters-in-law Greg (Marilyn) Proulx of Waconia, MN; Jennifer (Stuart) Ohr, Wanamingo, MN; Mike (Krista) Proulx, Crookston, MN; Brad (Diane) Proulx of Roseville, MN; Barb (Tom) Rock of Grapevine, TX; Tom (Wanda) Proulx of Crookston, MN; Colleen (John) Lunski of Grand Forks, ND; Chuck (Cindy) Proulx of Hamlake, MN; Dan (Sherry) Proulx of Plymouth, MN; Michelle (Tom) Senger of East Grand Forks, MN, and many other relatives.

Ed is preceded in death by his parents Victor and Adele, his son Darin, and his parents-in-law Paul and Lois Proulx.

Visitation for Ed Amiot is on Thursday, June 18th at Harvest Church, 520 Fisher Avenue Crookston from 5-7:00 PM, with 7:00 PM prayer service.

The funeral service is Friday, June 19th at 11 a.m., with a visitation one hour prior to the service at Trinity Lutheran Church, 205 S. Broadway, Crookston. Pastor Dave Finsaas of Harvest Church and Pastor Vern Christopherson of Trinity Lutheran Church are officiating.
