Dwight Tahran

May 28, 1945 — July 8, 2025

Dwight Fredrich William Tahran, 80, of Crookston, Minnesota, passed away peacefully on July 8, 2025, at Edgewood Vista in East Grand Forks, MN with his son (Brett Tahran) by his side.

Dwight was born on May 28, 1945, to Emil Tahran and Nettie (Siegle) Tahran in Jamestown, North Dakota. He lived on his family's farm in Cleveland, North Dakota and attended school in Cleveland. Dwight graduated salutatorian in the 1963 Class at Cleveland High School. After high school he attended NDSU in Fargo where he served in the ROTC and graduated in 1967 with a degree in teaching. In February 1968, Dwight married Arlene A. Seckerson in Jamestown, North Dakota. They welcomed their son Brett into the world on May 23, 1974, at Riverview Hospital in Crookston, Minnesota.

Dwight dedicated himself to molding the minds and lives of the children in Crookston, Minnesota. He taught social studies in the 593 school district from August of 1967 until his retirement on May 28, 1999. Dwight taught the children as a Sunday School teacher also. When he was not teaching the students, he helped keep statistics for Herb in basketball, assisted in coaching football with Jim Myrold, helped Mr. Osborne prepare the debate team, worked as the one act play director, advised the Amigos de las Americas club, and was the junior class advisor. Dwight knew how to be involved and stay busy! In the summer months from teaching Dwight did crop hail adjusting and put up grain bins. Dwight also helped his son Brett for three years on the custom harvest run. He also helped several farmers, especially his good friend Doug Erdman and drove trucks for CVC for several years.

In his later years, Dwight slowed down by spending hours at CVC drinking coffee with friends and conversing with the farmers about the wonders of how technology has shaped modern business. Dwight enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling, and driving by the fields to look at the crops. His family meant the world to him, he loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren who always kept him busy. Dwight spent countless hours going to his grandchildren's school events, sports, and supporting them anyway he could. Dwight was known for liking his sweet treats, giving the best advice, teaching the grandkids card games, and for being his goofy self, always making people laugh.

Dwight is preceded in death by his sister Deanna Mutzenberger, parents Emil and Nettie Tahran, father and mother-in-law, Lloyd and Mary Lou Seckerson.

Dwight is survived by his beloved wife Arlene; son Brett; daughter-in-law Theresa (Myerchin) Tahran; brother Dennis Tahran and wife, Kathy; brother-in-law Reuben Mutzenberger; and other brother and sister-in-laws; grandchildren Hannah (Tahran) Moreno and husband Marco Moreno, Zachary Tahran and Makayla Tahran. He was lovingly known as "Gpa T" by his grandchildren. Dwight was also survived by several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Dwight's family will honor and celebrate his life with a funeral service on Monday July 14, 2025, at 2:00 pm from the chapel at Stenshoel-Houske Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 12:00 pm until 2:00 pm. Dwight's burial will be at the Sunset Memorial Gardens in Jamestown, ND at a later date.
