It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of Dustin Edward Joshua Klooz, age 39, of Crookston who left us too soon on February 22 in Chaska, Minnesota.
Dustin was born on November 3, 1986, in Fargo, North Dakota, to Sandra Klooz. He was a beloved son, brother, father, uncle, and friend. Dustin was known for his infectious happiness and his deep love for his children.
He spent his early years in Crookston, Minnesota, alongside his three siblings, running around and collecting any and all critters he could find. Dustin loved catching snakes, frogs, grasshoppers, bugs—anything that moved. If you were looking for him, you could often find him near a local body of water or exploring nature, even at Highland Nature Center after hours, searching for his next discovery. He especially loved fishing and enjoyed this hobby throughout his life. He took great pride in teaching others and sharing his love of fishing, especially with his children.
Dustin attended Crookston public schools until 8th grade and ultimately graduated high school from Grand Rapids, Mn.
Dustin was easygoing, funny, and social, making friends wherever he went, he had an infectious laugh that filled every room and was always ready for the next opportunity to jump out and prank someone. His closest friend was his brother, Jacob. They shared an unbreakable bond stemming from their childhood adventures that bloomed into their adulthood. Though Dustin struggled through many hard times in life, he always persevered, never giving up on himself or his goals.
Nothing brought Dustin more joy than becoming a father—Even through his struggles and time apart from his children, he never stopped thinking about them or loving them deeply.
Dustin is survived by his mother, Sandra of Warren; his brother Jacob Klooz of Crookston; his brother Duane Klooz of Minneapolis; his sister Christina Klooz; his children, Bailey, Diasyn, and Kaidyn; nephews Landon and Joshua; niece Clara; Aunt Jan Szczech; Uncle Dale Klooz (Sue) of St. Paul; and many cousins and extended family members.
He was preceded in death by his brother Joshua Klooz; his grandparents, Clara and Edward Klooz; cousins Christopher, Jason, Joey, Chucky, and Louie; Aunt Carol Heinle; and special person Grandma Jan.
Dustin’s family and friends will celebrate his life with a memorial service on Friday, March 6, at Stenshoel-Houske Funeral Home beginning at 5:00 p.m. A funeral service will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church on Saturday, March 7, at 2:00 p.m., with visitation beginning at 1:00 p.m. Food and fellowship will follow.
Dustin’s memory will live on in the laughter he shared, the waters he fished, and the love he gave so freely to his family and friends.
