Duane Wentzel

Duane C. Wentzel, age 73, of Leesburg, FL, and formerly of Fisher and Crookston, MN, died Thursday, June 13, 2013, at Waterman Villages in Mount Dora, FL, under the care of hospice. Duane was born at Crookston on July 13, 1939, and was the son of Clarence and Margaret (Norton) Wentzel. He grew up on the family farm near Fisher, MN and was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. Duane attended Fisher Public Schools and high school at the Northwest School of Agriculture in Crookston. He began farming with his father and later served with the U.S. Army from 1958 until his honorable discharge in 1960. After his return from the service he was employed by the Crookston Times for several years. In 1968 he began working for the J.C. Penney Company at their store in Fargo. Through the course of his thirty year career with the Company he managed stores in Aberdeen, SD, Waterloo, IA, Keokuk, IA, Springfield, IL, Raleigh, NC Florence, AL, Fort Myers, FL, and Winston-Salem, NC. Duane retired in 1998 and a year later settled in Leesburg. Loving family members include 2 daughters and sons-in-law, Kari and Joe Craig of High Point, NC, and Karin and Scott Bell of Chatham, IL; 6 grandchildren: Ryan, Andrew, Ian, Trenton, Erek, and Emily; and a great-granddaughter, Madeline. Duane is also survived by 3 siblings: Dorothy (Gordon) Hoeger of Grand Forks, ND, Dennis (Georgia) Wentzel of Albert Lea, MN, and Karlene (Jim) Helgeson of Crookston, MN; a sister-in-law, Mary Ellen Wentzel of Minneapolis, MN, and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives. Sadly, Duane was preceded in death by a son, Todd D. Wentzel, who died in a motorcycle accident on July 19, 1991; his parents, Clarence and Margaret Wentzel; and a brother, Keith Wentzel. May God bless the memory of Duane Wentzel. A memorial graveside service for Duane C. Wentzel will be held at the Oakdale Cemetery in Crookston at 11:00am, Saturday, August 17, 2013, with The Rev. Greg Isaacson, officiating. The Stenshoel-Houske Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. Memorials will be given in Duane's name to the Amvets or Moose Lodge and may be sent to his family c/o Karin Bell, 1826 Avenel Lane, Chatham, IL 62629.
