Donald Rau

Donald Duane Rau, 79, of Crookston, MN, passed away on September 16, 2016 at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, ND, surrounded by his family. Donald was born on April 12, 1937 in Appleton, MN to Walter and Alice Rau. He went to school in Appleton, MN. Donald married the love of his life, Monna Haggerty, on June 14, 1958 in Moorhead, MN. They had two children, Cindy and Brent. Donald worked at Clark Irrigation in Appleton, MN. In 1982, he and his family moved to Crookston, MN. He then worked at the Ray Jorgenson Farm and later at Napa Crookston Welding before his retirement in 1999. Donald was an active member of the Eagles for many years. He enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing, and going to the lake. He especially liked going out on the boat with his son, Brent. Donald also loved spending time with his family, and enjoyed carving the turkey on Thanksgiving and Christmas. Donald is survived by his wife, Monna; children, Cindy (Bruce) Meyer of Crookston, MN, and Brent Rau of Crookston, MN; grandchildren, Melissa Meyer of Fargo, ND, David (Maria) Meyer of Aberdeen, SD, Tandra (Fred) Landman III of Red Lake Falls, MN, Jason (Tasha) Meyer of Crookston, MN, Crystal (Cory) Cabana of Garfield, MN, Tammy (Scott) Wallace of Crookston, MN, and Justin (Jami) Meyer of Crookston, MN; great-grandchildren, Kyle, Alea, Saya, Skyler, Zack, Kelsey, Freddy, Hunter, Claudia, Ella, AJ, Kaitlyn, Dillynn, JoJo, Dylan, Devin, Justice, and Jordin; great-great grandchild, Haley; sisters, Carol Sachs of Montevideo and Deb (Mark) Boraas of Appleton, MN; and other nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Alice Rau; grandparents, Olga and Oscar Anderson, and Gustav and Emma Rau; and brother-in-law, Craig Sachs. May God bless Donald's memory. There will be a visitation from 5-7 p.m. with a prayer service at 7 p.m. on Thursday, September 22, 2016 at Stenshoel-Houske Funeral & Cremation Service in Crookston, MN. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., with a visitation one hour prior to service on Friday, September 23, 2016 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Crookston, MN.
