Darlene Adeline Johnson, 71, of Crookston, Minnesota passed away peacefully at RiverView Care Center on Friday, January 20, 2012 surrounded by her loving husband and daughter. She was born on April 15, 1940 to Clarence and Madeline (Westling) Johnson in Drayton, North Dakota. Darlene grew up in Stephen, MN where she graduated from Stephen High School in 1958. Upon graduation, Darlene moved to Crookston to attend Bethesda Nursing School and graduated as an LPN in 1959. While in Crookston, she met her future husband, Stanley Wayne Johnson, and they were united in marriage on August 19, 1961 at Eagle Point Baptist Church in Stephen, MN.
Darlene and Stanley made their lives in Crookston, where she worked as an LPN at Bethesda Hospital, Northwestern Clinic, Altru Clinic, and at the Glenmore Recovery Center. When she wasn't working, she and Stanley enjoyed square dancing together. Darlene was also an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Crookston, an avid doll collector, creator of beautiful embroideries, and was passionate about taking care of others.
Darlene is survived by her loving husband of 50 years, Stanley; a daughter, Sharla Johnson of East Grand Forks; two sisters, Donna Anderson of Stephen, MN and Lorraine Flaten of Fergus Falls, MN; one brother, Bruce (Jan) Johnson of Thief River Falls, MN, and several nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death is her daughter, Shawnda Johnson; and her parents, Clarence and Madeline (Westling) Johnson. A funeral service celebrating Darlene's life will take place on Wednesday, January 25th at 11:00 a.m. in the Trinity Lutheran Church in Crookston with The Rev. Jo Gast, officiating. Visitation will be at the Stenshoel-Houske Funeral Home on Tuesday, January 24, 2012 from 5-7:00 pm, with a 7:00 pm prayer service and time of memory sharing. Visitation will also be at the church for one hour prior to the funeral. Interment will be in the Oakdale Cemetery in the spring.
