Carol Sutliff

June 17, 1950 — July 12, 2013

Carol Jane Sutliff, age 63, of Crookston, MN, died unexpectedly of natural causes Friday evening, July 12, 2013, at RiverView Health in Crookston.

Carol was born on June 17, 1950 at Columbus, MT, the daughter of Harold and Clara (Laughery) Hudson. The family moved from Montana to Crookston when she was 10 years old. Carol then attended Crookston schools. She was first employed at Jiffy Fry and later for a few years at Anderson Fabrics. Shortly after high school, Carol was united in marriage and three children were born to this union: Linda, Duane, and Lisa. In 1984, she began working in the laundry department of the Villa St. Vincent. After twenty-eight years of dedicated service, she retired in July 2012. On May 17, 2002, Carol was united in marriage to Allan M. Sutliff at the Church of Christ in Crookston. The couple enjoyed many wonderful years of travel; making memorable trips to Alaska and Hawaii, as well as, visits to all but five other states. Carol always preferred doing the driving whenever possible. Many of these trips involved visits to extended family members in other parts of the country. Al and Carol also liked to attend local concerts and fairs. Carol enjoyed spending time in her flower gardens, bird watching, doing puzzles, and cross-stitching. Many of her stitched craft pieces were of eagles, which she added to her extensive collection of carved and casted eagle figurines. She enjoyed being a homemaker and was always painting and redecorating somewhere in the house. One of the highlights of having a large family was keeping up with the grandkids and their activities, which meant there were always hockey, volleyball, basketball, and other school events to attend. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, and will be very sadly missed by all who shared in her life. Loving family include her husband of 11 years, Allan; 3 children and 6 grandchildren: Linda (Phil) Walters of Cass Lake, MN and children, Monica and Kenny; Duane Hennager (Tammy) of Crookston, MN and children, Alex and Sam; and Lisa (Larry) Dunlap of Hot Springs, SD and children, Brittany and Amanda; 4 step-daughters and 7 step-grandchildren: Heather (Dean) Hahn of Warroad, MN and children, David, Jeremy, and Deidre; Jamie (Paul) Rowe of Thief River Falls, MN and son, Michael; Geraldine Sutliff (Jeff) of Red Lake Falls, MN and daughter, Elizabeth; and Claudine (Michael) Arveson of Goodridge, MN and children, Donna and Nichole; 3 great-grandchildren: Cole, Wyatt and Jayden; 2 brothers: Eugene (Bev) Hudson of Shanty of Shantytown, IL and Dennis Hudson of Crookston; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, and a sister, Diane. May God richly bless the memory of Carol Jane Sutliff. The funeral service for Carol Sutliff will be held at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 16, 2013, at the Evangelical Covenant Church in Crookston with The Rev. Timothy Bhajjan, officiating. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. Tuesday morning until the time of the service. Inurnment will be in the Oakdale Cemetery, Crookston.
