Arlene Tahran

April 14, 1948 — November 15, 2025

Arlene Ann Tahran, 77, of Crookston, Minnesota, passed away on November 15, 2025, at Edgewood Vista East Grand Forks Memory Care.

Arlene was born on April 14, 1948, in Jamestown, North Dakota, to Lloyd and Mary Lou (Tompkins) Seckerson. She began her education in a one-room schoolhouse two miles from the family farm before attending Jamestown schools, graduating in 1966. After graduation, she was employed at Jamestown High School as the principle secretary. As a 4-H member in sewing and cooking, Arlene developed a deep love for the family farm and treasured the time she spent working alongside her family.

In February 1968, Arlene married Dwight Tahran in Jamestown. She continued working at Jamestown High School until she and Dwight relocated to Crookston. In Crookston, she worked at Crookston High School for a short time before beginning her long career at the University of Minnesota Crookston. Arlene served in administration for the Business Division at UMC, dedicating 43 years until her retirement.

Arlene loved watching westerns-especially Gunsmoke and anything starring John Wayne-and enjoyed traveling with her family during their early years. She was a devoted cat and dog lover and appreciated bird-watching. Creative by nature, she spent countless hours knitting and sewing, and she delighted in preparing delicious meals for her family. Well known for her cakes and cookies, Arlene had a special fondness for sweets and especially enjoyed cherry Coke.

Above all, Arlene deeply loved her family. She cherished time with her grandchildren, and she and Dwight devoted many hours to attending their school and sporting events. Being part of their lives was incredibly important to her.

Arlene is preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Dwight Tahran; her parents, Lloyd and Mary Lou Seckerson; her parents-in-law, Emil and Nettie Tahran; brother-in-law, Darrell Wiest; sister-in-law, Deanna Mutzenberger; and infant brother, David Seckerson.

She is survived by her son, Brett Tahran, and daughter-in-law, Theresa Tahran; grandchildren, Hannah Moreno (Marco), Zachary Tahran, and Makayla Tahran; siblings, Roy Seckerson (Judy), Dale Seckerson (Marion), Alan Seckerson, Marlene Wiest, and Dorene Stroh (Dave); and many nieces and nephews.

Arlene's family will celebrate her life with a funeral service on Friday, November 21, 2025, at Stenshoel-Houske Funeral Home beginning at 11:00 a.m., with visitation starting at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Jamestown, ND.
