Todd G. Peterson, age 59, of Faribault, MN, formerly of Crookston, died Saturday, June 22, 2013 while finishing the Senior Leg of a bicycle ride in Viroqua, Wisconsin.
Todd was born on February 22, 1954 in Crookston, MN, son of Donald G. and Patricia (Wallgren) Peterson. He grew up and was educated in Crookston, graduating from Crookston Central High School in 1972. While in high school, he ran cross country and track. He was involved with ROTC during college. He got his computer engineering degree from Moorhead State and Concordia College in Moorhead. Following college, he worked in the oil fields in Wyoming for five years, before entering the US Marines and serving for six years working as a data systems operator and achieving the rank of 1st Lt. Following his discharge from the Marines, Todd worked with a computer company in Columbus, Ohio. While in Columbus, he began bicycling for fun and exercise. In 1995, Todd returned to Minnesota, settling in Leonard, where he owned and operated his own computer business. In 2006, he joined Bosch/SPX in Owatonna, MN, where he lived until recently moving to Faribault.
Todd enjoyed fishing, especially trips to Canada with family. After moving to Owatonna, Todd got involved in bicycle racing and was very competitive, winning many events; he belonged to the Silver Cycling Club, the St. Paul Cycling Club, and the OBC (Owatonna Bicycling Club).
Survivors include his father: Donald G. Peterson of Crookston; his brother: Aaron (Kim) Peterson of Bemidji; sister-in-law: Shirley Peterson of Moorhead; nieces & nephews: Kristen (Andrew) Slavig, Nick Peterson, Heather Holm, Dustin (Wendy) Fincher, Beau Peterson, Raielle (Nick) Hams; three great-nieces and two great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother: Patricia on March 19, 2011; a brother: Craig, 21 years ago; and a great-niece: Hannah.
Todd's funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM, Friday, June 28, 2013 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Crookston, with the Rev. Bill Reck, officiating. Visitation will be at the Stenshoel-Houske Funeral Home in Crookston on Thursday from 5-7 PM, with a 7 PM prayer service, and also at the church for one hour prior to the funeral. Interment will be at Oakdale Cemetery, Crookston.
