Dolly Youngquist

A.A. "Dolly" Youngquist, 84, of Crookston, MN, died peacefully Friday, January 13, 2012, at the Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, ND. Dolly was born at Crookston on March 7, 1927, and was the daughter of John and Elizabeth Dostert. She attended Crookston Public Schools and graduated from Central High School with the Class of 1945. Dolly was employed at the Northwestern Clinic in Crookston before her marriage to Donald Youngquist on September 20, 1947 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Crookston. Their marriage was blessed by the births of two children, Scott and Teri. For several years Dolly worked as an aide at the Bethesda Nursing Home, and later at RiverView Nursing Home. In 1979, Don's employer, Blue Cross and Blue Shield, transferred him to Minneapolis. While living in the Cities, Dolly was employed at a medical facility, caring for patients with special needs. Following their retirements in 1989, Don and Dolly returned to Crookston. Dolly was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, and had been a volunteer with Meals on Wheels for several years. She was a very active member and past-president of Crookston's VFW Auxiliary. Dolly was instrumental in the Auxiliary's blood bank drive, organized the VFW's appearances in local parades, arranged for members to make hospital visits to the sick, served as the organization's historian, and led many successful fund-raising campaigns. She loved her family very much and greatly enjoyed time spent with them. Dolly touched the hearts and lives of so many, and will be dearly missed. Loving family members include Don, her beloved husband of sixty-four years; her 2 children: Scott Youngquist and his wife, Kim, of Las Vegas, NV, and Teri Gardner and her husband, Bob, of Grand Forks, ND; 2 grandchildren: Summer Youngquist and Autumn Youngquist, both of Las Vegas; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, William and Joanne Youngquist of Crookston; and other family members. She was preceded in death by her parents. May God bless the memory of Dolly Youngquist. A Memorial Service celebrating the life of Dolly Youngquist will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, January 19, 2012, at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Crookston with The Rev. Jo Gast, officiating. Visitation with the family will be for one hour prior to the service. Inurnment will be in the Oakdale Cemetery, Crookston. The Stenshoel-Houske Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements.
